Taking Education to Homes (TEtH)

Launched in 2013, this project focused on children from birth to 3 years and their caregivers in the slum area of Mangalwar Peth, Phaltan. Research highlights this as the most crucial period for a child’s holistic development. With guidance from Bahujan Hitay’s Kishor Mitra Trust, whose Potli program inspired the effort, eight trained local women (Potli-Sakhis) visited families weekly.
They demonstrated playful, developmentally rich interactions using simple toys and everyday household materials, guiding parents on communication, nutrition, and health. Regular mohalla meetings engaged the community—fathers and neighbors included—through discussions and street plays on child care, addictions, and family well- being. Over time, harsh discipline reduced, father–child interactions increased, and children entered preschool with greater confidence and joy.
Supported initially by Maharashtra Foundation, PSS hopes to revive this impactful program soon.
